The Honourable Senator St. Germain, P.C., Chair of the Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples, presented its sixth report (Bill S-8, An Act respecting the safety of drinking water on First Nation lands, without amendment but with observations).

The Honourable Senator St. Germain, P.C., moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator Duffy, that the bill be placed on the Orders of the Day for a third reading at the next sitting.

The Honourable Senator Runciman, Chair of the Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs, presented its twelfth report (Bill C-26, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (citizen's arrest and the defences of property and persons), without amendment).

The Honourable Senator Di Nino moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator Wallace, that the bill be placed on the Orders of the Day for a third reading at the next sitting.

Introduction and First Reading of Government Bills

A message was brought from the House of Commons with a Bill C-40, An Act for granting to Her Majesty certain sums of money for the federal public administration for the financial year ending March 31, 2013, to which it desires the concurrence of the Senate.

The Honourable Senator Carignan presented a Bill S-11, An Act respecting food commodities, including their inspection, their safety, their labelling and advertising, their import, export and interprovincial trade, the establishment of standards for them, the registration or licensing of persons who perform certain activities related to them, the establishment of standards governing establishments where those activities are performed and the registration of establishments where those activities are performed.

The bill was read the first time.

The Honourable Senator Carignan moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator Poirier, that the bill be placed on the Orders of the Day for a second reading two days hence.
